My original music has been taking a back seat lately to my new project, The Julie Duke Band. We have been rehearsing twice a week, going to open mics and just last Saturday played our first gig at the Bainbridge Island Farmers Market. We are a five piece group consisting of Jim Londay on bass, Robert Manny on Guitar, John Lester on drums, Brian Barta on guitar and myself on vocals. This Saturday at 7pm we are putting on a free concert at the Island Music Center on Bainbridge. I am currently working on original songs that we will hopefully play sometime soon...
Cotton Jones, Nicole Atkins (saw her open for Black Keys), Andrew Belle, The Head and The Heart (of course), ahhh the list goes on...I am loving the sounds...Florence + The Machine (Kiss with a Fist is AWESOME). Inspiration & Motivation and just plain good stuff to listen to.
Whew, I love writing a new song...this one is called "good morning" and I really like it (opposed to the ones I write that I don't like?). It is about morning (obviously), the kind of morning that occurs after not sleeping all night because you have stayed up with someone and now it is really time to move on with the day and the realities of that and all that is not being said or thought about in avoidance of ending a moment that may never happen again...see? Whew
Played music last night with a new friend - awesome time! He brought his banjo and uke - too cool. Looking forward to more...
I went to see Burlesque...I love Cher...not in the gay way...though...she looks awfully good for 65!
